3rd - pair of Gadwall seen on the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina and a Great Spotted Woodpecker seen flying over the pond. Approx 40 Redwing seen in the cattle field west of the treatment works. Approx 20 Siskin seen feeding in alders near the Ballast Hole Pond. Male Reed Bunting seen at the side of the canal between the footbridge and the Nadee. First Mistle Thrush heard singing.

5th - Flock of Lapwing seen circling over stubble fields near Hicklin's Bridge. Song Thrush singing by the canal between Nadee and the treatment works and another seen along Crow Park Way. Treecreeper seen near the Ballast Hole Pond.

11th - Green Woodpecker seen on the track north of Stanhope Wood. Flock of 5 Bullfinches seen in bushes opposite the Nadee and another seen along the footpath behind King George V playing field..

14th - Goldcrest seen in hedge near Watson's Bridge and c7 Yellowhammers in the hedge north of Hicklin's Bridge. A Reed Bunting, a Goldcrest and a Chiffchaff seen feeding in the reed beds at the Severn Trent treatment works.

15th - 2 x Chiffchaff, 2 x Reed Bunting, 2 x Grey Wagtails and 1 Goldcrest seen in the reeds beds at the treatment works. Flock of c20 Fieldfares and Redwings in the horse paddock Crow Park Way. Green Woodpecker near Stanhope Wood.

16th - Flock of Fieldfare seen at Mercia Marina pond.

17th - Nuthatch on bird feeder in garden Sycamore Avenue.

18th - Song Thrush on garden bird feeder Sycamore Avenue.

19th - Mistle Thrush, Fieldfares and Redwings feeding seen in All Saints Church yard.

19th - 4 Meadow Pipits seen feeding on the filtration beds at the Severn Trent treatment works.

22nd - 15 different bird species seen at Severn Trent treatment works including at least 10 Meadow Pipits and 3 Chiffchaffs.

22nd - Pied Wagtail feeding in garden Sycamore Avenue

24th - Wren feeding in garden Sycamore Avenue

28th - One Song Thrush seen near the treatment works, c30 Redwing seen in the cattle field west of the treatment works, Great Spotted Woodpecker seen near the Nadee and 2 Goldcrest seen feeding with a flock of Long Tailed Tits on the reed bed at Stanhope Wood.

31st - A Sparrowhawk in flight seen from Watson's Bridge, 20+ Pied Wagtails seen at the treatment works, 2 Mistle Thrush seen in the cattle field west of the treatment works, a Jay in flight seen from Watson's Bridge and 9 Reed Bunting seen at the treatment works.

2nd - 2 Foxes seen in Findern Cemetery, Common Piece Lane.

4th - Pair of Gadwall seen at Mercia Marina Pond. c30 Pied Wagtail seen at treatment works and c20 Redwing and 2 Mistle Thrush seen in the cattle field west of the treatment works.

7th - Snowdrops in bud Commom Piece Lane.

8th - Treecreeper seen at the Ballast Hole Pond and a Dunnock seen in a garden Sycamore Avenue.

8th - Kestrel seen at Stanhope Wood, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper and 5  Bullfinch seen at the treatment works. c60 Fieldfare in the stubble field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. Yellowhammer seen along track off Heath Lane and another seen at the top of Common Piece Lane.

10th - Snowdrops in flower Stanhope Wood.

10th - Just spent 15 minutes watching a male Sparrowhawk eat a male Blackbird on the back lawn Aults Close. Sad for the Blackbird but fascinating!

12th Sparrowhawk seen flying over cattle field west of treatment works. Buzzard seen in field east of Heath Lane. Great Spotted Woodpecker in Crow Park Way. 4 Song Thrush seen in horse paddock north east of Crow Park Way. 2 Chiffchaff seen at the treatment works and c12 Long Tailed Tit adjacent to treatment works. 7 Goldfinch seen on the path near the Ballast Hole Pond.

16th - Pair of Gadwall still at Mercia Marina Pond and c28 Tufted Duck also seen at the pond - a record count for this site. 2 Oystercatcher seen at Mercia Marina. Great Spotted Woodpecker seen in trees behind the pond.

17th - Buzzard seen flying over stubble fields north east of Hicklin's Bridge. 1 Kestrel seen at Stanhope Wood. 1 Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works. Male Yellowhammer seen singing near King George V Playing Field.

19th - 1 Green Woodpecker seen to fly over the canal near the railway bridge.1 Goldcrest, a pair of Bullfinch and 3 Reed Bunting seen at the treatment works. 10+ Siskin seen feeding in Alders at the Ballast Hole Pond.

23rd - Oystercatcher x 2 seen at Mercia Marina.

23rd - Primroses in flower Crow Park Way on Cardales Meadow bank.

26th - Hawthorn breaking into leaf Doles Lane opposite Field Farm.

27th - Coot and Swan seen swimming in canal Stenson Bubble.

28th - Several Lapwing seen in the stubble field west of Watson's Bridge. Kestrel seen hunting Crow Park Way towards the A50 underpass. Buzzard seen sitting in tree at the far side of the horse paddock Crow Park Way.

2nd - Green Woodpecker heard calling in Cardales Meadow.

3rd - Primroses in flower in Stanhope Wood, Crow Park Way and Stanhope Hole pond bank.

3rd - 2 Buzzard seen soaring over the old fishponds north of Common Piece Lane. 2 Lapwing seen in the subble field west of Watson's Bridge. 2 Stock Dove seen in the old ash tree north of Crow Park Way. 1 Treecreeper, a pair of Bullfinch and 2 male Reed Bunting seen near the treatment works. A pair of Yellowhammers seen along the track east of Lower Heath Lane.

 6th - Pair of Little Grebe seen on Mercia Marina Pond and a Great Crested Grebe seen at the Marina itself.

6th - Shag seen flying along the canal.

7th - Male Bullfinch feeding on bird feeder in back garden Sycamore Avenue.

9th - Female Kestrel seen flying along the lower half of Crow Park Way. A Great Spotted Woodpecker seen to fly over the canal near the Ballast Hole Pond. A Treecreeper seen near the treatment works. 

13th - Pair of Gadwall at Mercia Marina Pond. 4 Lapwing in the stubble field SW of Watson's Bridge and 2 Skylark in the stubble field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 8 Song Thrush seen around the canal circuit including 4 singing males which bodes well for the breeding season.

17th - Green Woodpecker heard calling at the treatment works and a Great Spotted Woodpecker seen at the end of Crow Park Way. One Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works and a Siskin seen in the trees on the green.

17th - Barn Owl seen in the field adjacent to Clovermead on Common Piece Lane.

19th - Several Grey Wagtails seen at the treatment works where a male Sparrowhawk tried to catch one but failed. One Chiffchaff seen at the treatment works and another heard singing off Heath Lane near the A50 bridge.

20th 3 male Greenfinches and a male Chaffinch seen on  bird feeder in a garden in Sycamore Avenue.

21st - Goldfinch feeding on bird feeder in Sycamore Avenue.

21st - Wild Daffodils and Primroses seen in flower along the towpath

22nd - Fox seen on the corner of Longlands Lane opposite The Wheel.

27th - Sparrowhawk seen in Sycamore Avenue. Song Thrush feeding in garden Sycamore Avenue.

28th - c100 Linnets seen flying south over Watson's Bridge (first sighting of this species this year) in the morning and at about 6pm 2 Barn Owls seen hunting over the fields near Watson's Bridge.

29th - 2 Grey Wagtails seen at the treatment works along with c20 Pied Wagtails. c40 Fieldfare, c60 Linnets and a pair of Yellowhammers seen in the stubble field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. Male Sparrowhawk seen hunting over the top part of Heath Lane.

30th - Little Egret seen in a field off Frizams Lane.

30th - Great Spotted Woodpecker seen canal side near the railway  bridge.

31st - Nuthatch seen near the Ballast Hole Pond.

31st - 7 pm Barn Owl seen  hunting in the field behind Ivy Cottage on Lower Green.

April

5th - Frogspawn in garden pond Aults Close.

6th - Group members accompanied members of Derby Bat Conservation Group to check our bat boxes. Unfortunately there were no bats but droppings were found in some boxes. Whilst along the canal towpath 2 Jays were seen flying across the canal, a Green Woodpecker and a Chiffchaff were both heard and 5 Buzzards were seen soaring overhead. A Pied Wagtail was seen near Hicklin's Bridge. Whilst in Cote Close we watched a tree creeper hunting for food in the bark of an oak tree and we also saw a Comma Butterfly.

6th - Brimstone Butterfly seen in garden Sycamore Avenue.

6th - Barn Owl seen hunting Brook Close, Common Piece Lane area.

7th - Kestrel seen Common Piece Lane. 2 Buzzards seen soaring over Cardales Meadow. Cowslips in flower on Cardales Bank and in the wet area of Crow Park Way.

10th - Bumblebee seen in Cote Close and Cowslips, Primroses, Wild Daffodils and Celandine are in flower so spring is definitely on the way!!

12th - Toadspawn in garden pond Aults Close.

13th - Peacock Butterfly seen on the allotments Heath Lane. Also seen was a House Martin, the first sighting this year.

14th - Skylark seen singing in the sky in the cereal field near Hicklin's Bridge.

16th - Tawny Owl heard calling Sycamore Avenue area.

18th - Siskin and Blackcap seen in the back garden of a house on Burton Road.

19th - Green Plover pair seen displaying in field near Hicklin's Bridge and a Yellow Wagtail seen on the canal bank.

20th - Swallows seen on wires Heath Lane. White Whorehound plant seen on canal towpath.

20th - Tawny Owl see in a tree by the Old Hall.

20th - 1 Brimstone and 1 Peacock butterfly seen in Burton Road.

21st 0 Cowslips out on Stanhope Wood Bank.

24th - 7 am Buzzard seen perched in a tree on open space and footpath back of Aults Close. It was then seen to fly down onto the grass and catch and eat worms. Watched it in and out of the tree for about 15 minutes before it eventually flew off. Fascinating!!!

24th - Seen on a walk round the canal circuit this morning: 5 Lapwing and a Stock Dove in a field west of Watson's Bridge, a Green Woodpecker heard south of the railway bridge and a pair of Pied Wagtail seen collecting nesting material near the railway bridge.8 Song Thrush, 7 Blackcap and 8 Chiffchaff seen or heard along the route.A male Common Whitethroat seen near Hicklin's Bridge and a pair of Reed Bunting seen near the canal west of Hicklin's Bridge.

25th - 6 am - The Buzzard is back in the same tree and again seen catching worms.

29th - 1 Grey Heron seen feeding at the canal side near the railway bridge. 1 Lesser Whitethroat heard singing at the b ack of King George V Playing field. 1 Skylark heard singing near Hicklin's Bridge.

2nd - Coot nest building on the canal between the railway bridge and Hicklin's Bridge. Pair of Bullfinch seen at the back of King George V playing field, first sighting for several weeks.

2nd - Lesser Whitethroat heard singing near the treatment works, Willow Warbler heard singing near the A50 underpass (first in Findern this year). Pair of Long Tailed Tits collecting nest material near the treatment works.

Butterflies seen in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary: several Peacock and Small White, a male Brimstone and a Green-veined white. Orange Tip seen in Stanhope Wood.

6th - Female Sparrowhawk seen in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary. Jack by the Hedge, Queen Anne's Lace in flower Common Piece Lane and Lady's Smock in Cardales Meadow. Orange Tip Butterfly seen in Common Piece Lane.

7th - Swallow seen in Heath Lane and a Skylark in Hicklin's field.

10th - Red Campion in flower Cardales Meadow. Red Admiral, Small White and Orange Tip butterfly seen in Common Piece Lane. Wayfaring tree in flower Stanhope Hole Conservation area. Marsh Marigolds in flower in the wet area Crow Park Way.

11th - Red Tailed Bumblebee seen in a house in Sycamore Avenue.

14th - Pair of Great Crested Grebe seen in the canal basin and another pair at the Marina. A female Mallard with 8 ducklings on the wildlife pond at the Marina.   A pair of Coot with 2 young on the canal near the footbridge. A pair of Oystercatcher with 3 young on the island at the Marina. A Little Ringed Plover seen on the grassy headland at the Marina (the first sighting of this species in the Findern area). 4 Swift seen flying west over the Marina (the first sighting this year). A male Yellowhammer seen singing at King George V playing field. A male Reed Bunting singing on the canal side near the footbridge. 

16th - Several House Martin seen over Porters Lane (first sighting this year) and Hawthorn in flower Baxter's Way.

16th - Brimstone, Small White, Red Admiral and Peacock butterflies seen in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary. Lady's Smock in flower on Cote Close Bank.

17th - Pair of Canada Geese with 7 young seen at Mercia Marina. Female Wheatear also seen at the Marina. Adult Great Tit seen feeding young opposite the Nadee and 2 male Bullfinch seen near Watson's Bridge. A Lapwing was seen mobbing a Sparrowhawk over fields off Hillside.

23rd - Jay seen in flight in Stanhope Wood.

25th - Bulbous Buttercups and Common Vetch seen in flower in Cardales Meadow. Wood Forget-me-not in flower in Stanhope Wood and Red Campion and Speedwell in flower on the brdleway by the canal.

26th - Woodland Brown Butterfly seen in Common Piece Lane and a Brimstone seen in Stanhope Wood.

2nd - King George V playing field, Mistle Thrush seen feeding 3 young.

10th - Fox seen with a rabbit in Crow Park Way.

12th - Brook Close, a Vixen and her cub on lawn looking for food. The vixen is a regular visitor but this is the first time she's brought her cub.

25th - Little Grebe seen at the wildlife pond Mercia Marins. 3 Oystercatchers seen at the Marina. 2 Common Terns see fishing at the Marina. Great Spotted Woodpecker heard at the bottom of Common Piece Lane and one seen near the railway bridge over the canal. Male Bullfinch seen at the bottom of Common Piece lane and a female near Watson's Bridge.

25th - Peacock Butterfly seen on towpath near railway bridge. Bee Orchids seen on track between A50 and Stanhope Wood.

26th - Chiffchaff heard Common Piece Lane and Song Thrush seen in Crow Park Way wet area. 3 pairs of Coots with young seen on the canal between railway bridge and Nadee and one pair of Morhen with young.

30th - 1 Great Crested Grebe seen at the Marina. 1 Grey Heron seen fishing on the canal near the railway bridge. 1 Common Tern seen flying along the canal near the railway bridge and 2 seen fishing at the Marina. 2 Sand Martin seen at the Mercia Marina wildlife pond. Male Yellowhammer seen off Lower Heath Lane. Male Reed Bunting seen near the marina basin. 3 Oystercatcher seen in a field between Willington Road and the canal between the Nadee and the white bridge.

2nd - 17 Early Purple Orchids in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary. 3 Common Spotted Orchids and 2 Early Purple Orchids in Stanhope Hole Conservation Area. 19 Early Purple Orchids in Stanhope Wood. 3 Bee Orchids on a track near Stanhope Wood. Yellow Flags in Crow Park Way wet area. Meadow Brown butterflies all over the grassland. Common Knapweed, Selfheal, Field Scabious, Meadow Cranesbill seen over grassland Stanhope Wood area. Common Mallow and Hedge Woundwort seen in Cardales Meadow. Dropwort and Dog Rose seen in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary. White Bryony seen in Common Piece Lane. Dog Rose seen in Stanhope Wood and Stanhope Hole.

3rd - Now 5 Bee Orchids on track near Stanhope Wood, another Early Purple Orchid in Stanhope Hole.

4th - Speedwell and Yellow Flag seen on the towpath. Germander Speedwell seen Hicklin's Bridge. Hedge Woundwort seen on the towpath. Morhen and 2 chicks and 2 Coots and  a Yellowhammer seen along the towpath. Dog rose seen in Common Piece Lane. Bumblebee nest seen Common Piece Lane. Chiffchaff and Meadow Brown butterflies seen Common Piece Lane. 

4th - 2 adult Mute Swans with 4 cygnets siin in the canal basin leading to Mercia Marina. Female Tufted Duck with 6 small ducklings seen on the marina wildlife pond. Female Kestrel seen hunting over the old fishponds on Common Piece Lane. 1 Oystercatcher still at the marina. Pair of Yellowhammer seen on the overhead wires Lower Heath Lane. Male Reed Bunting seen at the wildlife pond.

7th - Several Bee Orchids seen on the old petrol station site A38.

7th - Grey Heron seen fishing on the canal near the Severn Trent treatment works. Great Spotted Woodpecker seen flying over the canal near the railway bridge.

8th - A total of 143 butterflies seen around Findern including 95 Ringlets and the first Gatekeeper of the year seen at Stanhope Hole Conservation Area.

10th - Butterflies recorded around Findern today:- Small Skipper, Large White, Small White, Small Tortoiseshell, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown and Ringlet. Cinnabar Moths were also seen.

11th - At last 4 Emperor Dragonfly (incl 2 females egg laying), several Black-tailed Skimmer Dragonfly, 100s of Common Blue Damselfly including many egg laying pairs seen at the Mercia Marina Pond. Also seen at the pond were Swallows and at least 4 Pied Wagtails actively feeding on Damselflies. 1 Common Tern seen fishing at the Marina.

13th - Red Clover, Common Mallow and Field Scabious seen on the banks of the weat area Crow Park Way. Selfheal, Few Leaved Hawkweed, Dog Rose and Fruiting Cherry seen at Stanhope Hole Conservation Area. Rosebay Willowherb, Bush Vetch, Great Burnet and Knapweed all seen in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary.

14th - Bush Vetch, Herb Robert, Common Mallow, Great Willowherb, Meadow Cranesbill, Field Scabious and Ladies Bedstraw seen in Cardales Meadow. Meadow Sweet and Cherry Trees with fruit seen along the causeway. Common Poppy, Meadow Sweet, Great Willowherb Meadow Cranesbill and Oxeye daisy seen on the banks of the wet area Crow Park Way.

16th - Ladies Bedstraw seen in the wet area Crow Park Way.

15th - Brown Hawker Dragonfly seen near the A50 underpass. Male Bullfinch also seen near the underpass. Lots of butterflies seen on the wing including 2 freshly emerged Commas.

16th - Common Darter Dragonfly seen near the Mercia Marina pond and 2 Reed Warbler seen at the pond (first sighting this year).

17th - Butterflies recorded around Findern today:- Small Skipper, Large White, Comma, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown and Ringlet. Small white moths and Cinnabar moths were also seen.

27th - A Peacock butterfly and Small Tortoiseshell seen on Stanhope Wood Bank. Wild Carrot seen in Stanhope Hole Conservation Area. 

28th - Ladies Bedstraw, Wild Marjoram and Rosebay Willowherb seen on Cardales Meadow Bank. Purple Loosestrife seen in the wet area Crow Park Way. Black Medick seen on Stanhope Wood Bank. Hedge Bindweed and Field Bindweed seen in Cote Close. 

30th - Perforate St John's Wort seen in Cardales Meadow.

August

2nd - 2 adult Little Grebe with 2 young at Mercia Marina. A pair of Linnet seen feeding on the ground on the headland at the Marina. A Buzzard seen perched on the goalpost at King Georve V playing field. Kestrel seen perched on wires near the cattery on Willington Road. A male Yellowhammer seen near King George V playing field and a female Reed Bunting seen along the canal near the footbridge.

 11th - Adult Mistle Thrush and 3 juveniles seen in the horse paddocks off Crow Park Way.

12th - 3 Common Whitethroat seen near the bottom of Cote Close. One Blackcap singing by the canal near the treatment works. Family of Long Tailed Tit seen near the Nadee.

17th - Young Fox seen beside the road near Findern School.

21st - Dead Hedgehog seen in the road on Doles Lane near Archway Motors

 26th - Hobby seen flying over a garden on Hillside this afternoon.

27th - Fox seen crossing Lower Green into a field.

September

2nd - One Kingfisher seen perched at the side of the canal west of the treatment works and another seen flying east along the canal between the white footbridge and the Nadee. A male Blackcap and Common Whitethroat seen near the railway bridge. At least 3 Chiffchaffs heard singing around the canal circuit. 5 Linnet seen on the marina headland.

29th - Field Vole seen in garden Sycamore Avenue.

29th - Shaggy Inkcaps seen under the hedge near the white bridge and Buttercaps seen under the hedge along the towpath.

October

1st - A walk round the canal circuit produced the following sightings:-

Pair of Gadwall at the Wildlife Pond, a Kestrel perched on a bale north east of Hicklin's Bridge, Male Kingfisher perched by the canal side west of Severn Trent Treatment Works, 2 Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works, 2 Mistle Thrush seen in field north east of Hicklin's Bridge, 1 Chiffchaff seen with a flock of Long tailed and Blue Tits in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary, 1 Treecreeper seen at the treatment works and several large flocks of Goldfinch seen in the field north east of Hicklin's Bridge.

 5th - A walk round the canal circuit produced the following sightings: A Song Thrush at the treatment works (the first sighting for several weeks), A male Bullfinch seen to fly from the treatment works towards the A50. A Comma Butterfly seen along the canal side near the treatment works. A Painted Lady Butterfly seen to fly along the hedge at the western edge of Cote Close.

5th - Shaggy Inkcaps seen in Brook Close.

7th - A Song Thrust seen in back garden Aults Close.

16th - Common Toad seen sitting in the grass in Stanhope Wood. Lots of Goldfinches seen feeding on rape seed in the field north of Hicklins Bridge.

20th - Red Admiral butterfly in flight in back garden Aults Close

24th - 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker seen along the canal just east of the railway bridge and another east of the Nadee. Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly seen sunning itself in Cote Close and a Comma Butterfly seen feeding on ivy in Crow Park Way. A Common Darter Dragonfly also seen sunning itself in Cote Close.

25th - 3 Red Admiral Butterflies seen feeding on ivy at the top of Porters Lane.

27th - Frustrated Sparrowhawk seen sitting on bird table in front garden Aults Close. Unfortunately for him the Sparrows saw him coming and stayed in the hedge!

November

1st - A walk round the full canal circuit including the Marina revealed the following:

2 male Gadwall and a female at the wildlife pond, 1 Kingfisher flew from the canal side west under the railway bridge, A Mistle Thrush seen on top of the church spire and a pair of Yellowhammer seen from Potlock's Path.

12th - A walk round the canal circuit revealed the following:

One Green Woodpecker seen in Cote Close, 3  Mistle Thrush seen in the churchyard. Flock of 11 Yellowhammer seen feeding in rough ground just east of King George V playing field.

15th - Sightings around the canal circuit this morning include:

One Peregrine perched on the cooling towers. 4 Lapwing in the stubble field west of Watsons Bridge. A female Great Spotted Woodpecker feeding in a tree near Hicklin's Bridge. One Song Thrush seen near the treatment works. 2 Redwing seen feeding in a Hawthorn bush near Watson's Bridge.

18th - First Fieldfare of the autuimn seen this morning, 4 of them at Watson's Bridge.

18th - Snipe seen on Bakeacre Lane.

1st - 14 Mallard seen on the Ballast Hole Pond. Heron seen in the field next to the Treatment Works. Flock of Redwing seen in the field where the old monks ponds were adjacent to Common Piece Lane.

4th - A walk around the canal circuit and Mercia Marina revealed the following:-

3 Gadwall at the Marina wildlife pond. 1 Buzzard in the field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 1 female Kestrel perched in dead tree at the junction of Willington Road and Heath Lane. 1 Song Thrush in full song near Severn Trent Treatment works. Male Blackcap near Stanhope Hole Conservation Area. 2 small flocks of Long Tailed Tits, one at the bottom of Common Piece Lane and he other by the canal between Nadee and the white footbridge. A flock of about 50 Linnet in the stubble field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 3 female Bullfinch feeding on berries near the treatment works. A lot of Redwing were seen all along the route, probably about 200 in all.

6th - Grey Wagtail seen on the filter beds at the treatment works. A Treecreeper seen feeding in a dead tree near the treatment works. Flock of 50+ Fieldfare seen feeding on haws near Watson's Bridge. Flock of Linnet seen again near Hicklin's Bridge. Lots of Redwing still about.

10th - Grey Wagtail seen feeding in a stream near Stanhope Hole. Treecreeper, a pair of Bullfinch and a Song Thrush in full song seen near Severn Trent Treatment works.

17th - Female Kestrel seen in a tree at the bottom of Common Piece Lane. Green Woodpecker heard calling south of the railway line near Severn Trent Treatment works.Goldcrest seen in the w corner of the treatment works.  Treecreeper seen at the Ballast Hole Pond with a flock of Long Tailed Tits and Goldfinch.

19th - Cormorant seen flying west over the canal. Grey Heron seen flying over Hicklin's Bridge. one Chiffchaff seen along the northern edge of the treatment works.

20th - Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works. Female Kestrel seen hunting over Cardales Meadow.

31st - Green Woodpecker seen on Crow Park Way and a Kingfisher seen near the Severn Trent Treatment works.
