2nd - 11 Gadwall seen at the Mercia Marina wildlife pond, a record for this site. 1 Chiffchaff seen along the northern edge of the Severn Trent Treatment Works.

10th - Male Kestrel seen perched at the bottom of Common Piece Lane. Great Spotted Woodpecker , Grey Wagtail and Chiffchaff seen near Severn Trent Treatment works. Song Thrush in full song on Doles Lane. Male Bullfinch opposite the Ballast Hole Pond. Adult Fox seen sunning itself in the field opposite Clovermead.

13th - Skylark seen SW of Watson's Bridge., Chiffchaff on the northern edge of the treatment works., Treecreeper seen by the Ballast Hole Pond and a male Yellowhammer seen flying over Hicklin's Bridge.

16th - A Kingfisher and a Green Woodpecker seen near the Severn Trent Treatment Works.

24th - 26 Gadwall seen at Mercia Marina Pond, another record count. 1 Kestrel seen in the horse paddock Crow Park Way, 4 Lapwing seen in the stubble field west of Watson's Bridge, 5 Song Thrush seen in Stanhope Wood

28th A Buzzard, a Worm and a Shield Bug spotted by children at Findern Primary School.

29th A Squirrel and a some Crows spotted by children at Findern Primary School.

30th - Several clumps of Snowdrops seen in flower in Jubilee Wood east of the Ballast Hole Pond. A Blackcap seen in a garden on Hillside.

1st - Cormorant seen near treatment works. Sparrowhawk seen in garden on Hillside. Buzzard seen  Common Piece Lane. Chiffchaff seen near the treatment works and a Linnet sen SW of Watson's Bridge.

2nd - Sparrowhawk chasing Sparrow Aults Close.

3rd -  Red Kite seen from Watson’s Bridge at approximately 11.00 am. It appeared from the Stenson area and drifted south-west, quite high. (This recorder's first sighting of this species in Derbyshire). Goldcrest, Reed Bunting and Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works.

5th - Snowdrops seen in Stanhope Wood and near the Ballast Hole Pond.

7th - Female Bullfinch on bird feeder in garden Sycamore Avenue.

10th - 2 Fieldfare seen feeding in field opposite Clovermead Kennels, Common Piece Lane. Long Tailed Tits seen in horsepaddock Crow Park Way.

11th - One Pink Footed Goose seen over Cardales Meadow. An unusual sighting as they usually move around in flocks.

14th - 3.55 am Tawny Owl heard calling on Hillside. Green Woodpecker seen at the Ballast Hole Pond and near Watson's Bridge

17th - Green Woodpecker heard calling ner the treatment works. 4 Siskin seen feeding with Goldfinches near the Ballast Hole Pond.

19th - 2 Little Grebe and 12+ Gadwall seen at the Mercia Marina Pond.  A Great Spotted Woodpecker seen behind the Cattery on Willington Road and 2 Pairs of Yellowhammer seen at the junction of Heath Lane and Willington Road.

21st - Bumblebee seen in garden Sycamore Avenue. Primrose in flower Stanhope Hole Bank and Snowdrops in flower at Stanhope Hole and near the Nadee on Heath Lane

27th - 2 Oystercatchers seen at Mercia Marina, the first sighting this year. Kingfisher seen catching fish just east of the white footbridge (Potlocks) over the canal.

7th - Kestrel seen over Stanhope Wood. 2 Lapwing seen in the ploughed field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. Kingfisher seen flying west along the canal near the Ballast Hole Pond. Long Tailed Tit seen gathering nest material at the side of the canal W of the Ballast Hole Pond.

7th - Frogs very active in garden pond Aults Close.

8th - 2 x Mistle Thrush seen on Findern Village Green at about 2.30pm. Buff tailed bumblebee seen Sycamore Avenue.

9th - Brimstone Butterfly seen on the jetty between Lower Green and Sycamore Avenue. Peacock Butterfly seen in garden Aults Close. Small Tortoiseshell, Comma, Brimstone, Peacock and Small White Butterfly all seen in garden on Hillside. Primroses in flower Stanhope Hole bank, Canal towpath and Ballast Hole Pond. Wild Daffodils in flower Stanhope Hole and Ballast Hole Pond. Aconites in flower Jubilee Wood.

16th - Peregrine seen near the cooling towers. Male Kestrel seen hunting N of Cardales Meadow. Chiffchaff seen singing Heath Lane adj to A50 bridge. Pair of Yellowhammer seen on Lower Heath Lane. Pair of Reed Bunting seen at the treatment works. Comma and Male Brimstone Butterfly seen Common Piece Lane.

16th - Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly seen in a garden on Common Piece Lane.

 17th - Pair of Great Crested Grebe seen displaying at Mercia Marina. Pair of Oystercatcher seen feeding in flooded field s between canal and Willington Road. Treecreeper seen near the railway bridge over the canal.

 18th - Yellowhammer seen near Hicklin's Bridge and a Treecreeper near the Ballast Hole Pond.

21st - A Meadow Pipit seen in the horse paddock north of Crow Park Way, a new species for this year's list.

24th - Cormorant seen from Hicklin's Bridge flying westover the canal. Grey Heron seen at the canal side west of the treatment works. Male Blackcap heard singing canal side between the treatment works and the Ballast Hole Pond - the first of spring.

29th - Pair of Siskin seen in a garden on Willington Road.

30th - 3 Peacock Butterfly Heath Lane. Butterburr along the canal towpath. Common Dog Violet in flower Common Piece Lane/Sycamore Avenue. Coltsfoot in flower Stanhope Wood and on the canal towpath. 5th - Heron seen in field opp Ballast Hole Pond. Soprano Pipistrelle bat in bat box A50 underpass and another in a box in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary.

8th - Peacock Butterfly seen in garden Sycamore Avenue.

9th - Male and female Yellowhammer seen in garden on Willington Road. Swallow see on Doles Lane. Red Legged Partridge seen in crop field W of Watson's Bridge, Reed Bunting seen near the canal W of Hicklin's Bridge.

10th - 2 Red Admiral Butterflies seen in a garden in Brook Close. Lots of Cabbage Whites making an appearance on the allotments on Heath Lane. Female Yellowhammer seen in garden on Willington Road. 3 Linnet seen in the allotments Heath Lane. Ladysmock in flower in Cardales Meadow. Peregrine Falcon seen to catch a Pigeon in flight above Sycamore Avenue. Pair of  Red Legged Partridge seen in crop field W of Watson's Bridge.

11th - Fox seen at noon in Sycamore Avenue. 2 Brimstone Butterflies seen on Heath Lane.

15th - Swallow seen on allotments Heath Lane. Small White, Large White, Small Tortoiseshell and Orange Tip Butterflies seen on a walk around the canal circuit. 14 Ducklings seen on the canal.

16th - A pair of Bullfinch seen on Buckford Lane between the railway bridge and the school and a Swallow seen flying over the allotments on Heath Lane.

21st - House Martin seen Aults Close. Red Kite seen flying south over Doles Lane.

23rd - Grey Heron seen on the canal W of Hicklin's Bridge, Female Sparrowhawk seen over the treatment works, 3 Swallows seen near the Nadee Restaurant and a pair of Bullfinch seen near Hicklin's Bridge. Green Veined White Butterfly seen in garden on Hillside. Speckled Wood Butterfly seen Stanhope Hole Conservation Area.

24th - Holly Blue Butterfly seen in a garden on Hillside.

26th - Great Crested Grebe seen at Mercia Marina. Common Whitethroat seen near Hicklin's Bridge and 2 Willow Warblers seen at the canal side east of the treatment works.

 28th - Female Linnet and 2 Speckled Wood Butterflies seen Upper Heath Lane.

Green Woodpecker seen eastern end of Crow Park Way. 1 House Martin seen over the Marina and 2 Sand Martin seen over the marina wildlife pond, 1st sighting of both species of the year. 2 Mistle Thrush seen at the bottom of Common Piece Lane. Male Yellowhammer seen Heath Lane junc Willington Road. Pair of Reed Bunting seen west of Hicklin's Bridge. 

3rd - Lots of birds seen or heard on our Dawn Chorus walk this morning including: Buzzard, Chiffchaff, Song Thrush, Reed Bunting, Blackcap, Common Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Wren and Willow Warbler.

 5th - 1 Grey Heron seen circling round over the treatment works. 1 Sparrowhawk seen flying north over Hillside. 1 Green Woodpecker seen Stanhope Wood. Fox seen sunbathing on Common Piece Lane.

10th - Swift seen over Hillside.

16th - Grey Heron seen by the canal west of the treatment works. 9 x Mute Swan (2 adults and 7 cygnets) seen on the wildlife pond at the marina. Common Tern seen fishing at the marina for the first time this year. Great Spotted Woodpecker heard near the Ballast Hole Pond.

17th - Common Blue Butterfly seen Sycamore Avenue. Tree Bee nest in bird box Sycamore Avenue.

18th - Broad Winged Damselfly and Cinnabar Moth seen Common Piece Lane.

19th - Azure Damselfly seen Stanhope Hole Conservation Area.

21st - Male Kestrel seen in Stanhope Wood. 4 Banded Demoiselle Dragonflies seen on the canal side near the railway bridge (1st sighting of the year). 1 Brown Argus Butterfly seen at the bottom of the steps leading to Stanhope Wood, another 1st sighting of the year). Orchid not fully out yet so not known which species seen on one of our wildlife sites.

23rd - Bee Orchid and 4 Southern Marsh Orchids seen in flower near Stanhope Wood. Early Purple Orchid seen in flower Stanhope Hole Conservation Area.

30th - Bee Orchid seen near Stanhope Wood, 2 Jays seen on the A50 embankment north of Stanhope Wood (first sighting for several months) and a Peregrine seen on the cooling towers.

30th - Jay seen in back garden Aults Close.

31st - Netted Carpet Moth seen resing on shrub leaves in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary.

1st - 2 Sand Martin seen over the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina, Red-eyed Damselfly seen at the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina - first sighting in Findern.

2nd - Red Kite seen flying south over Hillside at 1003 am.

3rd - 2 Red Admiral Butterflies seen basking in the sunshine on the allotments on Heath Lane.

4th - Lesser Spotted Woodpecker seen looking for grubs etc in a rotten fence post in Brook Close.

5th - Common Blue Butterfly seen NW edge of Stanhope Wood - first sighting in Findern this year. Kestrel seen neaer Watson's Bridge. Skylark heard singing near Hicklin's Bridge. Pair of Bullfinch seen near the A50 underpass. Pair of Reed Bunting seen ner Hicklin's Bridge.

6th - Southern Marsh Orchids in flower near the treatment works. Common Spotted Orchid in flower in the wet area Crow Park Way. Whitethroat seen feeding young near Cardales Meadow.

9th - Little Grebe, Great-crested Grebe, Sand Martin, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, Chimney Sweeper Moth and Cinnebar Moth all seen at or near the Wildlife Pond at Mercia Marina.

11th - Stock Dove seen east of Cardales Meadow and Linnet seen near Hicklin's Bridge. Large Skipper Butterfly seen SW corner of Cardales Meadow. Speckled Wood Butterfly seen Common Piece Lane and Stanhope Hole Conservation Area. Male Bullfinch seen Common Piece Lane near Kennels.

 23rd - 10+ Black Tailed Skimmer seen at the Widlife Pond at Mercia Marina, the fist sighting this year.

26th - Pheasant and 6 young and a Green Woodpecker seen in Cardales Meadow. Heron seen on the causeway Crow Park Way.  Beech Nuts seen in Stanhope Hole Conservation Area.

27th - Hawker seen in a garden on Hillside.

Great Spotted Woodpecker seen flying over the road at the cattery on Willington Road. Brown Hawker Dragonfly seen at the canal side near the railway bridge, 1st sighting this year. 5+ Small Skipper Butterflies seen NW corner of Stanhope Wood, the first sighting in Findern this year.

14th - Green Woodpecker seen on Common Piece Lane.

16th - 2 Essex Skipper Butterflies seen on wasteground E of King George V playing field - the first sighting this year.

17th - Partridge and 3 chicks seen wandering along in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary.

28th - 2 Common Blue Butterflies seen in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary. Lords and Ladies seen on the canal towpath.

30th - Great Spotted Woodpecker seen Common Piece Lane.

31st - 2 Common Tern seen fishing at Mercia Marina. Sparrowhawk seen over Hillside. Male Common Darter Dragonfly seen at Mercia Marina wildlife pond, the first sighting this year. Green Woodpecker seen in Stanhope Wood.

4th - Harebells seen in Jubilee Wood, first time ever!

7th - Sand Martin seen at Mercia Marina wildlife pond. Reed Bunting seen canal side between Nadee and the white bridge. 

8th - Spotted Woodpecker seen on bird feeder Sycamore Avenue. 6 Swift seen Brook Close. Dead Shrew brought in by cat Brook Close.

11th - Hedgehog seen bug hunting around tree Brook Close.

12th - Sparrowhawk seen Brook Close.

13th - Sparrowhawk seen over Heath Lane.

22nd - Swift seen at the Mercia Marina wildlife pond, a late bird for this area.

29th - Sparrowhawk flew into garden and settled on bird table in Hillside!

30th - Wood mouse seen in Sycamore tree Sycamore Avenue. Tawny Owl heard in the Churchyard.

3rd - Grey Heron seen near Watson's Bridge, 5 Chiffchaff seen feeding on insects at the Treatment works, Treecreeper also seen at the treatment works. About 80 Goldfinch (mainly juveniles) seen feeding on weed seeds in the horse paddock Crow Park Way. Sparrowhawk seen over the church. Dead white albino Polecat seen at the side of the road near Findern Primary School.

 5th - Little Grebe seen on the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina. 1 Mistle Thrush and 4 Kestrel seen NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 

6th - Perforate St John's Wort seen on the track side of the A frame Stanhope Wood.

10th - Purple Loosestrife, Orange Balsam and Bladder Campion seen on the towpath near the Nadee.

14th - 1 Raven seen flying west from a garden on Hillside.

19th - 1 Chiffchaff seen near Watson's Bridge and another canal side south of the treatment works.

22nd - Great Spotted Woodpecker seen Stanhope Wood. Chiffchaff seen west of Hicklin's Bridge. About 10 Long Tailed Tit seen t the wildlife pond Mercia Marina. Jay seen in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary. 5 Buzzard and 1 Hobby seen from a garden on Hillside.

 25th - Green Woodpecker seen at the treatment works. Great Spotted Woodpecker seen west of Hicklin's Bridge. 2 Grey Wagtail seen canal side west of the railway bridge. Song Thrush seen near the treatment works, first sighting for several weeks.

2nd - Red Admiral butterfly seen flying in garden Sycamore Avenue.

16th - About 15 Redwing seen flying west over Common Piece Lane, first sighting of the autumn.

24th - 4 Gadwall and a Little Grebe seen at the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina. Female Yellowhammer seen canal side just east of the white footbridge.

25th - During our twice yearly bat box check carried out with members of Derby Bat Conservation Group it was found that 74% of the boxes had been used and that 16% were actually in use. 4 Leisler's bats were found in one box and 6 Soprano Pippitsrelles in another. Although Leisler's bats have been detected before in Findern this is the first time there is evidence of them having used our boxes and to find 4 of them in residence was an added bonus.

25th - Small Tortoiseshell butterfly seen flying in garden Sycamore Avenue.

25th - Female Great Spotted Woodpecker seen opposide Clovermead.Kingfisher seen along the canal between the treatment works and the Ballast Hole Pond. 1 Song Thrush and 1 Redwing seen west of the treatment works.

26th - Mallards seen on Trent and Mersey canal.

4th - Pied Wagtails, Pheasant and Fox seen and 2 Tawny Owls heard on Priory Way.

6th - Large clump of Shaggy Inkcaps seen near the locked gate on Crow Park Way.

7th - Kingfisher seen on the canal between STW and Ballast Hole Pond. Green Woodpecker seen feeding on gravel bed west of Watson's Bridge. Male Great Spotted Woodpecker seen canal side between the Nadee and the white bridge. Song Thrush and Mistle Thrush seen opposite Ballast Hole Pond. Jay seen flying over Watson's Bridge. 4+ Yellowhammer seen opposite Ballast Hole Pond.

10th - Kingfisher seen flying over Hell Brook near the A50.

14th - Cormorant seen flying over Mercia Marina.

19th - Reed Bunting seen by Watson's Bridge, Coal Tit seen in garden Hillside (first sighting for several months).

20th - Kestrel seen flying over the canal between the Nadee and white footbridge. 9 Lapwing seen in the crop field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 5+ Fieldfare seen along hedges N of Crow Park Way (first sighting this autumn).

15th - Woodcock seen dead on the grass verge Burton Road opposite EDM. Heron seen eating birdseed at the rear of 7 Brook Close. 18 Gadwall seen on the wildlife pond near Mercia Marina, the best count of the winter. 1 Coal Tit seen in a garden on Hillside. 5+ Yellowhammer seen feeding in stubble field SE of the junction of Willington Road and Heath Lane.

19th - 5+ Bullfinch seen feeding on Blackthorn buds A50 embankment near the steps.

26th - Flock of Fieldfare seen in the paddock by the stables Crow Park Way.

27th - Goldcrest seen with flock of Long Tailed Tits NW corner of Stanhope Wood.
