Flock of 6 Long Tailed Tits seen on garden feeder Sycamore Avenue.

2nd - Great Spotted Woodpecker seen on bird feeder Sycamore Avenue.

5th - Great Spotted Woodpecker seen on bird feeder Sycamore Avenue.

8th - Male Bullfinch on bird feeder Sycamore Avenue. Several Long Tailed Tit seen flying in Stanhope Wood.

13th - 1 Goldcrest seen A50 embankment N of the treatment works. 5+ Bullfinch seen A50 embankment N of Stanhope Hole. 2 Female Reed Bunting seen canalside between Hicklin's Bridge and the railway bridge. Hazel catkins fully open on the embankment near Stanhope Hole.

14th - Fieldfare seen flying over Cardales Meadow

 15th - 1 Male Great Spotted Woodpecker seen at the junction of Common Piece Lane and Crow Park Way. 1 Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works. Flock of 32 Yellowhammer seen in the cultivated field E of King George V playing field (the hightes count ever seen in Findern). 1 Reed Bunting seen feeding with the Yellowhammer. 4 Reed Bunting seen canalside between Hicklin's Bridge and the railway bridge. 7 Reed Bunting seen feeding on the filter beds at the treatment works. 1 Grey Heron seen to fly down to a pond on East Lawn.

17th - Dunnock seen in garden Sycamore Avenue.

18th - Great Spotted Woodpecker seen Common Piece Lane.

 19th - 1 Little Grebe and 17 Gadwall seen at Mercia Marina Pond. c200 mixed Thrush flock (mainly Redwing) seen in the stubble field SW of Watson's Bridge. 1 Goldcrest and 1 Treecreepter seen in Stanhope Hole Conservation Area. 1 Treecreeper and 20+ Goldfinch seen at the Ballast Hole Pond.

21st - 1 Coal Tit on feeder in garden on Hillside. 1 Cormorant flying SW over Mercia Marina wildlife pond. 4 Stock Dove feeding in field NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 1 male Great Spotted Woodpecker seen E of treatment works and a female seen E of the Nadee. 2 Chiffchaff and 11 Reed Bunting seen feeding in the filter beds at the treatment works. 4 Reed Bunting seen canalside between Hicklin's Bridge and the railway bridge and 1 male seen at Mercia Marina pond. About 150 Pink-footed Geese seen flying NW over HIllside.

26th - 1 Water Rail seen in the centre channel of the reedbed at the treatment works, the first sighting in Findern. 1 Kingfisher seen in Mercia Marina Basin. 1 Green Woodpecker seen at the junction of Common Piece Lane and Crow Park Way.

27th - Sparrowhawk seen on the A50 embankment north of Stanhope Wood. Male Great Spotted Woodpecker seen at the bottom of Common Piece Lane.

28th - Dunnock sitting on hedge with flock of House Sparrows Aults Close. Kestrel seen hunting in Bakeacre Lane.

29th - Snowdrops in flower Stanhope Wood. Song Thrush seen in Common Piece Lane.

2nd - 1 Peregrine seen on the cooling towers at the power station. 2 Stock Dove seen flying NE west of the treatment works. Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works. 100+ Redwing seen in the stubble field SW of Watson's Bridge. 14 Long Tailed Tit seen in Cardales Meadow. 2 Treecreeper seen at the Ballast Hole Pond. 8 Reed Bunting seen at the treatment works.

3rd - A pair of Mistle Thrush have become regular visitors to a garden on Aults Close as has a Pied Wagtail.

4th - 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming at the junctionof Common Piece Lane and Crow Park Way. 2 Chiffchaff feeding on the filter beds at the treatment works.

7th - Great Spotted Woodpecker seen on bird feeder eating fat balls and nuts in Brook Close. A pair of Blue Tits have also been visiting and feeding and taking an interest in the nest box. 

9th - First Snowdrop flowers seen near the Ballast Hole Pond. Female Kestrel seen being mobbed by 3 Jackdaws over Cardale's Meadow. Green Woodpecker seen to fly east Cardale's Meadow.

12th - Male Blackcap seen in garden on Hillside. 3 Goldcrest seen at the treatment works.

18th - 2 Reed Bunting seen in garden on Hillside.

22nd - 2 Cormorant seen perched on a pylon SW on the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina. 1 Grey Heron seen flying SE over Cardale;'s Meadow. Pair of Kestrel seen perched in a tree in the horse paddock N of Crow Park Way. Male Great Spotted Woodpecker seen by Hicklin's Bridge. 33 Pied Wagtail seen feeding on the filter beds at the treatment works. 4 Bullfinch also seen at the treatment works. First Primrose flowers seen on the bank adjacent to Stanhope Hole Pond.

8th - Frogspawn in garden pond on Aults Close. Spring is on the way.

19th - Pair of Little Grebe seen on Mercia Marina Pond. Chiffchaff (first spring migrant) seen at the bottom of Common Piece Lane. 2 Chiffchaff, one singing, seen at the treatment works. First Blackthorn flowers seen on the A50 embankment north of Stanhope Hole.

22nd - Newt seen in garden pond Aults Close, the first this year.

23rd - Pair of Gadwall seen on Mercia Marina Pond, the first for four weeks, hopefully they'll stay to breed there. 4 Stock Dove seen in the freshly ploughed field SW of Watson's Bridge. 1 Long Tailed Tit seen carrying nest material near the Ballast Hole Pond. 40+ Linnet seen north of Hickllin's Bridge, the first sighting this year.

26th - 1 Female Kestrel seen in the field east of Clovermead. 5+ Reed Bunting seen at the treatment works. Cowslips in flower Crow Park Way bank, first this year.

27th - 1205 hours Peregrine seen circling high from Hillside garden.

30th - Pair of Goosander seen at Mercia Marina, the first sighting for Findern. Skylark singing over fields N of Hicklin's Bridge, first Findern sighting this year. 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker seen over the treatment works.

Pair of Reed Bunting seen in the reedbed at Stanhope Wood, another pair seen at the treatment works and a third pair seen at Mercia Marina Pond.

4th- 2 Green Woodpecker seen in Cardales Meadow. Nymph of Emperor Dragonfly seen in garden pond Aults Close. 

5th - Brimstone Butterfly seen Common Piece Lane. Green Woodpecker seen on the track between the A50 and Stanhope Hole Conservation Area.

7th - Pair of Green Woodpecker seen in ash tree in Cardales Meadow.

8th - Green Woodpecker seen by the brook beyond Cardales Meadow.Brimstone Butterfly seen Crow Park Way. 6 Chiffchaff seen Crow Park Way. 2 Swallow seen at Mercia Marina, the first reported sighting in Findern this year.

9th - 2 Red-legged Partridge seen SW of Watson's Bridge, the first sighting this year. Blackcap, brief song heard near the treatment works.

10th - Swallow seen over Hicklins' Farm. Blackcap seen at the bottome of Common Piece Lane, the first sighting in Findern this year. Blackcap singing near the Ballast Hole Pond. Pair of Bullfinch seen east of treatment works.

14th - Pair of Little Grebe seen at the Mercia Marina Pond. Yellow Wagtail seen at Mercia Marina, the first sighting in Findern for several years. c50 Linnet seen feeding in cultivated field SW of Watson's Bridge.

18th - Willow Warbler heard singing in Cote Close, the first sighting in Findern this year. 1 Comma Butterfly and 1 Green-veined White butterfly were also seen in Cote Close for the first time this year. 1 Holly Blue buitterfly seen in Hawthorn Crescent, another first for this year.

21st - Orange-tip butterfly seen Doles Lane, the first sighting this year.

24th - Small White butterfly seen in Cote Close, Speckled Wood butterfly seen canal side near the treatment works, both of these are first sightings this year. Sparrowhawk seen over Hillside garden. Common Whitethroat seen at the bottom of Cardale's Meadow, another first sighting this year. Pair of Linnet seen gathering nest material at the junction of Common Piece Lane and Crow Park Way. First Hawthorn flowers and first Bluebells seen near Stanhope Hole Conservation area.

25th - House Martins seen in Aldersley Close, the first reported sighting this year.

30th - Kestrel seen carrying nest material in Cardale's Meadow. Skylark seen displaying north of Cardale's Meadow. Pair of Common Whitethroat seen gathering nest material in Cote Close Bird Sanctuary. Female Bullfinch seen est of King George V playing field.

 2nd - Grasshopper Warbler reeling in Cote Close, first recording for Findern. Reed Warbler singing link from the Marina to the canal. Treecreeper attending nest east of Hicklin's Bridge. Yellow Iris in flower canalside between Hicklin's Bridge and the railway bridge. Little Grebe seen on Mercia Marina Pond. Male Kestrel at probable nest site back of the horse paddock Crow Park Way. Kestrel seen hunting SW of wildlife pond. Peregrine seen perched on the rim of the cooling towers Willington. 2 House Martins inspecting possible nest site Hillside garden. 2 Male Yellowhammer perched on the hedge NW of Ballast Hole Pond. 3 Oystercatcher seen flying over Marina.

Great Spotted Woodpecker seen east of treatment works. 1 Skylark singing over crop field SW of Watson's Bridge. Male Sedge Warbler seen displaying over Stanhope Wood reedbed (new bird species for Findern).1 Reed Warbler seen on the link from the canal to the Marina. c10 newley fledged family of Long Tailed Tits seen in Cote Close. 1 Treecreeper seen attending a nest east of Hicklin's Bridge. Male Yellowhammer seen North of Hicklin's Bridge. Male Reed Bunting seen in Stanhope Wood reedbed. 1 Common Blue Butterfly and 1 Small Copper Butterfly seen in Stanhope Wood field.

 3rd - Red Kite seen flying north over Aults Close.

 9th - 1 Little Grebe seen on Mercia Marina Pond. 1 Lesser Whitethroat singing at the bottom of Cardale's Meadow. 1 Garden Warbler seen gathering food in Stanhope Wood and another Garden Warbler seen singing canalside between Hicklin's Bridge and the railway bridge. Both the Lesser Whitethroat and the Garden Warbler are new species for this year making a total of nine Warbler species recorded in Findern.

10th - A Painted Lady butterfly seen in a garden on Castle Hill. 11+ Bee Orchids seen in flower along a track near Stanhope Wood.

20th - Painted Lady butterfly seen in Burton Road.

24th - Large Skipper butterfly seen in Cote's Close. Banded Demoiselle seen canal side betwen Nadee and the white bridge. Common Blue butterfly, Blue-tailed damselfly, Burnet Companion moth and a Silver Y moth all seen at Mercia Marina Pond.

 29th - Small Skipper butterfly seen at the NW corner of Stanhope Wood near the steps, the first sighting this year. Small Tortoiseshell butterfly seen canal side between the Nadee and the white footbridge, the first of this year's brood.

2nd - Six-spot Burnet moth seen in Stanhope Wood, Shaded Broad-bar moth seen at the top of Cardale's Meadow, 2 Emperor Dragonfly and 12+ Black-tailed Skimmer seen at Mercia Marina Pond - all of these are the first sightings this year. 2 male Kestrel seen hunting west of Watson's Bridge. Reed Bunting heard singing in Cote Close.

6th - Great Willowherb, Ground Elder and Meadowsweet all in flower Common Piece Lane. Field Scabious, Meadow Cranesbill and Lady's bedstraw all in flower on Stanhope Wood Bank. Musk Mallow, Perforate St John's Wort and Common Knapweed all in flower Cardale's Meadow. Willow Warbler seen in Cardale's Meadow. Great Spotted Woodpecker seen at the fork Common Piece Lane and Crow Park Way.

8th - Grasshopper Warbler seen at the fork of Common Piece Lane and Crow Park Way.

9th - 2 Essex Skipper butterfly seen on the permissive track north of Stanhope Wood - first sighting this year. 3 White-letter Hairstreak butterfly seen in Stanhope Wood - the first sight in Findern. 1 Holly Blue butterfly seen in a garden on Hillside. Numerous Comma and Gatekeeper butterflies seen on our wildlife sites. 1 Silver Y moth seen in Cardale's Meadow.

16th - Linnet seen at Mercia Marina Pond and a paid of Yellowhammer seen north of Hicklin's Bridge.

31st - Purple Hairstreak Butterfly seen flying at the top of an Oak tree at the junction of Common Piece Lane and Crow Park Way this evening. Another first for Findern.

3rd - Weasel seen crossing the causeway on Crow Park Way. Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar seen Stanhope Wood.

4th - Grey Heron seen canalside south of Severn Trent treatment works. 2 junvenile Grey Wagtail seen at Mercia Marina. 1 Female or juvenile Blackcap seen by the railway bridge east of the treatment works. Male Linnet seen at Mercia Marina.

 10th - Green Woodpecker seen feeding on anthills Crow Park Way bank. 2 Common Whitethroat seen canalside by the railway bridge. 1 male Yellowhammer singing north of Hicklin's Bridge. 1 Painted Lady Butterfly seen in a garden on Hillside the first sighting in Findern this year.

17th -  1 juvenile Kestrel seen north of Hicklin's Bridge (indicates successful breeding). 1 Peregrine seen on the cooling towers.

23rd - Hobby seen over a garden on Hillside.

24th - Treecreeper seen east of the Ballast Hole Pond.

27th - 4 Buzzards circling together east of the cooling towers. Male Kestrel hunting west of Watson's Bridge. Swift seen flying SW opposite Clovermead, a late record for this area. Small Copper Butterfly seen east of King George Playing field.

7th - Grey Heron seen canal side between the treatment works and Ballast Hole Pond. 1 female and 5 juvenile Tufted Duck seen at Mercia Marina. Kingfisher seen to fly over the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina. Male Blackcap seen feeding on elderberries in Stanhope Wood. Female Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting seen north of Hicklin's Bridge.

9th - Red Kite seen to fly over the church.

7th - 6 House Martin seen over Hillside Garden.

8th - 1 female Kestrel seen south of the Nadee, Chiffchaff heard singing canalside south of the railway bridge. 2 Swallow seen Upper Heath Lane (a late recording for this area).

 12th - Jay seen flying NW over Buckford Lane, first sighting this year. 

15th - 1 Little Grebe seen at Mercia Marina Pond. 1 Peregrine seen on the eastern cooling tower.  1 Song Thrush, 1 male Blackcap and 1 Treecreeper seen at the treatment works. Flock of Long Tailed Tits seen feeding at the treatment works. 2 male Yellowhammer seen NW of the Ballast Hole Pond.

19th - 1 Goldcrest seen feeding with a mixed tit flock canalside between Hicklin's Bridge and the railway bridge.

26th - Pair of Gadwall seen on Mercia Marina wildlife pond, the first sighting since April. Buzzard seen feeding on a carcass in the middle of a stubble field south of Willington Road. Great Spotted Woodpecker seen east of Watson's Bridge. Flock of about 10 Redwing seen feeding on haws east of the treatment works, the first sighting of the autumn. 2 Mistle Thrush also seen feeding on haws east of the treatment works.

10th - A male Red Crested Pochard seen for the first time on the wildlife pond at Mercia Marina. Also seen on the pond were 18 Gadwall and 2 Little Grebe. Grey Heron seen flying South behind the church, Buzzard seen flying over the treatment works. Kestrel NE of Hicklin's Bridge.

12th - Lapwing seen in field NE of Hicklin's Bridge, Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works. 6+ Fieldfare seen feeding with 30+ Redwing in the horse paddock N of Crow Park Way. Male Yellowhammer seen in fields west of the Ballast Hold Pond. Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly seen by the steps leading to Stanhope Wood,

19th - 6 Fieldfare seen feeding on the ground with 30+ Redwing. Male Yellowhammer seen NW of Ballast Hole. Sparrowhawk seen flying N over churchyard. Peregrine seen on the middle cooling tower. 1 Water Rail seen at the treatment works. 14 Lapwing NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 2 Stock Dove seen feeding in stubble field south of Willington Road. Kingfisher seen along the canal between Hicklin's Bridge and the railway bridge. Juvenile Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works. Mistle Thrush seen in the churchyard. 1 Female Bullfinch seen at the treatment, the first sighting for seven months.

23rd - Goldcrest seen in the trees Common Piece Lane. Redpoll seen in the hedge Common Piece Lane between the brook and Clovermead.

26th - 54 Lapwing seen NE of Hicklin's Bridge. 1 Grey Wagtail seen at the treatment works. 3 Yellowhammer seen N of Hicklin's Bridge. 25+ Redwing seen feeding on Haws Watson's Bridge.

22nd - Chiffchaff, Sparrowhawk, 2 Lapwing, Bullfinch an Grey Wagtail all seen at the treatment works. Large number of Wood Pigeon seen north of Crow Park Way.

28th - Kestrel seen eastern end of Bakeacre Lane. Great Spotted Woodpecker and Song Thrush see at the treatment works. Jay seen near Findern Primary School.
