Minutes of a meeting held on the 1st November 2007

2. Declarations of interest:
Declarations of interest were made by Mrs. L Froggatt, Mrs. H Hall and Cllr. Mrs. A Hood in respect of the Crime Reduction Group.
3. Minutes of the last meeting held on the 6th September 2007:
The minutes of the last meeting held on the 6th September were accepted as a true record after amendments to those present and apologies.
4. Matters Arising:
Mr. P Wilson had purchased both the Hayter and Honda mowers after a discussion with Mr. Bell and a cheque for £100 had been handed to the Group.
A letter of thanks had been sent in further support of the provision of an extended footway on Willington Road.
Mr. Hicklin was waiting for rain to soften Cardales Meadow before a trial strip could be ploughed.
A complaint had been received from a lady turning up at Lower Green car park for the Carsington walk, which had been cancelled. The importance of pre-booking as emphasised.
Thanks were expressed to Mr. Bell and Mr. Froggatt for their attendance at the Wetland Seminar on 11 October, handouts are to be circulated with a distribution list.
The Biffaward presentation held in Manchester on 3 October and attended by Mr. and Mrs. Froggatt and Mrs.Hall was a great success, the Group reaching the final 17 in the judging.
Another letter is to be sent to Peter White regarding the provision of a strimmer, a suitable model for which had been selected by Mr. Froggatt and endorsed by the Group.
6. Finance and Fundraising:
Mrs. Ross announced that the reserve account stood at £6171.24 (£39.08 interest) and the current account at £2904.68.
An application had been made to the Parish Council for the Minor Maintenance grant from SDDC, which has remained at £385 for some years. Cllr. M Ford had been asked to make representations concerning an increase. Cllr Mrs. A Hood offered to investigate how other Parish Councils underspend was used.
Mrs. Froggatt requested subjects for 4 Action Earth projects at £50 each to be carried out between January and June.
Subjects were also requested for Natural England funding from Debbie Court of DCC concerning 2 projects.
The Group agreed to proceed with a scheme to commission and apply a logo (cost £10.00). The Safer Neighbourhoods Partnership are to be asked to security mark the new mower.
6. Communications and Notifications:
Mr. Williams had visited the site for the barn owl box proposed by Mrs. Hithersay and found it unsuitable. The article in the paper had produced far ranging responses, the most suitable apparently from Mr. Tim Parnell-Mrs. Froggatt is to co-ordinate.
Mr. Wright had written to Mr. Cox regarding the possible sale of land at Stanhope Wood and Stanhope Hall. Mr. Cox had replied to the effect that the land was not for sale, but would be rent free for the next 5 years.
There is to be a tree planting at Stanhope Wood on 24/11/07in memory of Jack Chisnall and physical help had been requested by Mrs. V Chisnall. Mr.Bell and Mrs. Ashford offered their services.
Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Hithersay had visited Naturescape and purchased wildflower seed for Cardales Close.
A letter of thanks is to be sent to the Community Payback Service for their help.
Publicity was read out for the Great Tree Giveaway by Derby City Council on 10/11/07.
A letter and pictures had been received from Ros Litting following the opening of Cotes Close. The pictures are to be displayed in the Parish Rooms.
Mrs. M Goodall had requested details of volunteer hours worked by the Group, which amounted to 160 for October and 200 for the CPS.
7. Maintenance and Usage Reports on Public Rights of Way:
The dog stile on F/P 8 had been damaged. D Adkins had been notified and the farmer informed and had unsuccessfully carried out a repair. A stile kit is available.
It was reported that P White of DCC had agreed to ask D.Adkins SDDC to carry out immediate temporary work to alleviate the flooding on bridleway 11. A more permanent solution costing some £40,000 was ‘on his list’ for 2008/2009. Cllr Ford has been asked to contact P. White in support of this work which is desperately needed. Apparently there is a pipe leading from underneath the bridge along the canal bank and empties into Hell Brook. The pipe seems to be blocked and Cllr. Mrs. A Hood is to liaise with D Adkins.
Footpaths 1,3,4,5,8,11 and 12 have been walked and inspected since the last meeting.
Repairs are necessary to the cross rails on 7 and 10 and Mr. Bell is to investigate the schedule.
8. Great Trees of Derbyshire Project:
Project virtually complete and all dimensions sent to Debbie Court and Peter White (DCC). Only Doles Lane and Burton Road remain to be surveyed.
9: Condition of Village Map:
A firm letter had been sent to Caliber requesting an early inspection of the Village Map and the indicator board for Turnpike Way. A quotation had also been requested for the replacement of the indicator board on Airport Way destroyed accidentally.

National Tree Week-Planting 26/11/07. Help was requested with planting replacements in Stanhope Wood. The Burton Mail had advertised A Great Tree Giveaway.
National Nestbox Week-Potential sites were requested. The vicar is to be approached with a view to using the churchyard.
Talk-Group decision not to proceed for the time being.
11:Great Derbyshire Clean-up:
The children will be involved in the Graffitti art project from 16-19 February 2008 and the Findern litter pick will take place on 20th February commencing 10.30 a.m.
12. Parish Walks:
Parish walks programmes and walks leaflets were distributed. Derby City Council had requested a further walk in 2008. The Group agreed to participate providing prebooking is ensured. The necessity for 3/4 Group representatives plus risk assessments, first aid and mobile phone was emphasised.
13: SDDC Walking Festival 2008:
The Group agreed that 2 walks should be offered, the Findern-Willington-Findern and the Findern Historical walks. Cllr. Mrs.Hood is to urge that the Festival launch takes place in Findern.The next meeting is to be held on 10/12/07 to be attended by Mrs.Tidy and Mrs.Hall. Mr.Orme reported that the condition of the Anchor church footpath and stiles was deplorable and an accident had befallen Mrs. Ross. The matter had been reported to D Adkins.
13. Wildlife Bank:
Mrs. Tidy is monitoring the database sub-divided into wildlife and plants and the Group agreed it was not appropriate to make recordings in the detail required by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. The objective is to monitor and watch the changing situation. Thanks were expressed to Mrs.Tidy.
15: Christmas Meal:
The Christmas meal was decided for Tuesday 18th December and will be held at the Wheel, 7.00 for &.30-Two courses Christmas fare for £10 per head and names to Mrs. Froggatt. If a different menu is required a separate booking will be necessary.
Mrs. Froggatt concluded the meeting at 9.20 p.m.by thanking everyone for contributing to a superb year.
