The next meeting of the Footpaths Group will be held in the Parish Rooms on Thursday June 5 2008 commencing at 7.00pm. The press and public are cordially invited to attend.
The meeting will begin with a safety talk for using the Westwood mower. This will take place on the grass outside the Parish Rooms.

Minutes reviewed and agreed to be an accurate record.
4. Finance and Fundraising
a) Liz reported that she had had a visit from Eric Clayton, Community Development worker from South Derbyshire CVS, who had given her advice on who best to apply to for funding for our projects and also offered help in other ways such as preparing and photocopying a group Newsletter. He has agreed to talk to group members at our next meeting.
b) It was agreed that the group would apply to the BBC Radio Derby for a grant from their publicised ‘money mountain’ fund.
c) A letter has been received from the Big Lottery Fund stating our account has been closed.
d) Thanks were extended to Mary’s son John for all his help
e) A cheque for £100 has been received from Warburtons for project funding.
f) Mike reported that the search for an internal auditor is still ongoing.
5. Notifications and Correspondence
a) Liz stated that Peter visited us last Thursday and made a short film of the village which has been e-mailed to group members. He states that he would like to film us at a monthly meeting and also carrying out other activities such as planting but asks if this could be done on a Saturday. This will be added to the group’s website in due course.
b) Liz reports that the delivery of the new picnic table has been delayed.
c) The damaged kissing gates are to be repaired/replaced and this time welded on. Thanks were extended to Keith, who first reported the damage, and to Dave Adkins and Andy Laxton who are assisting in the repair and replacement. Any new kissing gates will be welded at the time of installation.
d) The missing information sign at the Windmill has turned up undamaged and will be replaced.
e) E-on central networks are replacing all overhead wires in our area in August and this will involved the closure of FP1 Priory Way. E-on will place closure signs at each end of the walk and have assured us that work will be completed well before our scheduled walk on 14th September.
f) Liz reported that our footpaths stationery will now show the Parish Rooms address and telephone number and that a new e-mail address has been added.
g) Liz reported that the village has been short listed for the environment section of the Village of the Year award. The judges will be attending the Parish Rooms at 11am on Friday 13th June 2008 and members are asked to attend and bring as many villagers as they can to extol the virtues of our village. The judges will then go on a short tour around the village to see for themselves why we should win.
h) Liz received an e-mail from Val Collins re forming a walking group. Frances says as she runs a walking group she will be happy to reply.
i) Liz received an e-mail from the BBC asking if we could let them know of any future events we are planning as they may like to include them in their ‘Do One Thing’ initiative.
j) Liz received an e-mail from Debbie Court informing us that the LBAP has teamed up with Nottinghamshire and two meetings are to be held on 9th and 10th October to discuss funding and biodiversity plans.
k) Sheila reports that a villager has donated 2 oak trees which the group will be happy to plant.
l) Wendy had contacted Naturescape and handed round a price list of plug plants for Cardales Meadow. After some discussion it was agreed to replace the Foxgloves with Knapweed and Wendy will place the order forthwith.
6. Public rights of way reports and stile replacement programme
a) Liz reports that footpaths 7, 10 and 11 have been mowed and strimmed.
b) FP5 - the nettles are causing problems by the Tower House and the A38.
c) FP8 - the hedge alongside the duck boarding towards the canal needs trimming.
d) FP7 - Lower Green has a wobbly stile.
7. Bridleway Diversion
Still no solution as the 3 landowners concerned and the horse riders don’t seem to be able to agree the route. Seymour has volunteered to speak to all parties in an effort to get this matter resolved satisfactorily. He confirmed that he is no longer working for one of the landowners in a professional capacity.
8. Evaluation of National Forest Walking Festival
Both our walks were well attended with a total of 60 visitors taking part overall. Group members had attended the ‘thank you’ event at Rosliston the previous evening and Liz handed round photographs of the occasion. The evaluation meeting is on Thursday 10th July 2008 at Rosliston.
9. Project and Event Planning
Two bee boxes are to be placed, one in Cote Close and one at the Ballast Hole Pond, on Monday 23rd June. Meet Lower Green at 10 am. The bee boxes and the promotional tabards are stored in the Parish Rooms garage. A photograph will need to be taken on the day to meet the requirements of the funders.
10. Wildlife Bank
Heather reported seeing a Goldcrest in Common Piece Lane on Thursday 29th May and Seymour reported seeing house martins nesting at a house in Aults Close. Liz Froggatt and Liz Lenton handed their May sightings to Joan to be added to lists.
