The minutes were agreed to be an accurate record.
4. Matters arising
Heather reported that she had obtained literature concerning Canal Watch. The registration documents are to be sent off.
5. Finance and fundraising
Current Account: £1928
Reserve Account: £4,799.81p
It was agreed to apply for funding from Action Earth and the Loughborough Building Society.
6. Communications and notifications
a) Liz reported that British Waterways had advised her that Stenson Bridge was likely to be out of action until at least November 2009. Derbyshire County Council have agreed to send rangers to attend to the problems with the new clapper gates on Turnpike Way. Dave Adkins has been in contact with Connect concerning the inadequate crossing point near Footpath 10 (Willington). Findern Local Crime Reduction Team are proposing to organise another Big Clean Up on our countryside sites.
a) The Tree For All event had been very well attended and 160 trees had been planted. Mr Cox has offered to buy some holly trees for the group to plant.
b) Group members had attended the Insect Show on the 8th November. Much information had been learnt about identification of insects.
8. Event planning
a) Living with Nature Talk 4th February 2009. Joan will do the poster and Heather stated she would be happy to take the bookings.
b) Derby City ‘Let’s go Wild’ event 2009. Group members have tried several routes but have unfortunately been unable to find one suitable to be put forward this event. Joan will inform Derby City.
c) Do One Thing. This will take place on 18th February 2009 from 1 pm to 3 pm and will consist of a ‘Workshop on The Green’ making bug and bird boxes and feeders. Group members are asked to collect fir cones, logs, small plastic drinks bottles and scraps of plywood for the event. Raffle prizes would also be needed.
d) Not all the trees had been planted on 1st December so group members agreed to meet at 10 am on Monday 8th December 2009 to plant the rest.
9. Public rights of way and stile replacement programme
Dave Adkins has agreed the plans for improvement work on Priory Way with Peter White. It is hoped work will begin shortly. The improvement work planned for the side of the canal (Bridleway 11) has now been deferred until 2010.
10. Group newsletter
It was agreed to produce 2 or 4 issues annually, depending on finance.
11. Project planning
a) Liz reported that the materials for the paths to be laid in Stanhope Hole and Cote Close have been ordered and that the work would be carried out on 10th and 17th January 2009.
b) Group members had discussed requirements for the information board to be installed in Cardales Wildflower Meadow with Caliba. We await their first draft of the design.
12. Wildlife Bank
Ann had reported seeing a stoat chasing a rabbit in the wet area on 19th November.
13. Christmas Meal
Members paid the balance and Joan will take this and the menu choices to Littleover Lodge on Friday 7th November. 14. Servicing of equipment
The sit-on mower and the hand mower need servicing in the spring. Liz is to book this in.
15. Next meeting – appointment of chair
The next meeting will be on Thursday 5th February 2009 starting at 7 pm and will be chaired by Sheila.
