Apologies were received and accepted from Cllr Ann Hood, Liz and Nev Froggatt and Martin Woodhouse
2) Minute Number 096/09/FPG - Declarations of interest (parish councillors).
There were no Declarations of Interests.
3) Minute Number 097/09/FPG - Minutes of meeting held on 3rd September 2009.
Resolved: The non-exempt minutes of the meeting held on Thursday 3rd September 2009 having been circulated were accepted as a true record.
4) Minute Number 098/09/FPG - Finance and fundraising
There was nothing to report.
5) Minute Number 099/09/FPG - Notifications and correspondence
Joan Tidy reported that she had received some correspondence from the Walking Festival which had already been emailed out to everybody in the group. However she had not yet received the minutes of the last Walking Festival Meeting but would email them out to everybody once she had received them.
6) Minute Number 100/09/FPG - Event planning:
· Wildflower Planting Day, 10.10.09
Resolved: It was agreed that the footpaths Group would now meet on The Green instead of Lower Green for all their planned events as this would give the group a higher profile within the community.
Resolved: To meet on The Green at 10am on the 10th October 2009 for the Wildflower Planting Day.
Joan Tidy explained that Liz Froggatt had completed the posters for the event, but she wanted to make sure that the group had everything that they required for the day.
Resolved: Joan Tidy to contact Liz Froggatt and check that the plants had arrived.
· Do One Thing for Birds Day, 28.10.09
Joan Tidy explained that the group needed to determine that they had everything that was required for the day. She said that the group had enough fir cones and bottles tops, Wendy Hithersay is to be asked if she would mind getting the seeds and lard again, Wendy also had the childrens masks ready, Alan would be bringing along the colouring sheets and the Methodist Chapel would be putting on the refreshments.
Resolved: Joan Tidy, Liz Lenton and Val Fellows to bring colouring crayons.
The Clerk explained that she had spoken to the Parish Council with regards to the cost of the bird boxes at the last meeting and it had been agreed that the Parish Council would give a Parish Grant of up to £250.
Resolved: Liz Froggatt to send the Clerk to the Council a letter requesting a small Parish Grant with details of what this would be used for and how much they would require.
Resolved: It was agreed that the Footpaths Group would pay the further £250.00 from their own funds towards the cost of the bird boxes.
Peter Handley explained that he had made 20 bird boxes and would make a further 10 before the event. These bird boxes would be used as a back up on the day.
· Dare To Wear It Pink Walk, 30.10.09
Resolved: to meet at the Green commencing at 10.30am.
It was agreed that the group would walk to Willington along the canal and then go to Cherry Tree Farm for about lunchtime, however, understandably the Cherry Tree Farm did not want the group to walk around the public house where people were eating their lunch so any collecting would be done at the door or in the car park.
It was also agreed that the group could call in at the Marina on the way back and visit the Willow Tree Café.
Joan Tidy explained that she had completed the posters and it would be a £2.00 per person. Nobody in the group required any further sponsor forms.
· National Forest walking Festival 2010
Joan Tidy explained that the information received from Marion Farrell at Groundwork’s had already been emailed out to the group members. She explained that the only walk they would be doing next year on Thursday 26th May 2010 would be the Findern Historical Walk meeting at 7pm at Findern Village Hall. However this would be discussed closer to the time.
It was reported that the next Walking Festival Meeting would be held on 8th October 2009.
Resolved: Joan Tidy to send her apologies as she is unable to attend this meeting.
· OPAL Air Pollution Survey
The OPAL Air Pollution Survey will be held on Monday the 5th October 2009. Nev Froggatt to attend on behalf of the Footpaths Group.
· Tree o’ Clock, 5.12.09
It was reported that the group had already been registered for the record breaking attempt of planting as many trees as possible within one hour on 5th December 2009 commencing at 11am to 12 noon. It was agreed by the group that planting two areas at the same time would be a logistical nightmare and that they should just concentrate on Cote Close.
Resolved: The Clerk to add this item to the next agenda for further discussion.
Resolved: To add the Village of the Year to the next agenda to discuss why we did not do as well as we should.
7) Minute Number 101/09/FPG - Public rights of way reports & stile replacement programme
Heather Hall reported that the temporary bridge over the canal seemed to be in need of repair. She explained that as you step down, as you go from Findern to Willington it seemed very high almost as if something was missing or had been taken off and the ties look as if they had been cut.
Resolved: The Clerk to contact British Waterways to investigate the problem.
It was reported that there was a sign on the temporary bridge stating that work would be commencing on the damaged bridge in January 2010.
It was reported that Liz Froggatt and Joan Tidy had cleared Rushy Meadow Way, The Gostilles and Potlocks path on Monday. However there may be more work required at Airport Way. Joan explained that also on Monday they walked Priory Way which was not too bad but a couple of the styles were overgrown with brambles and could do with aof a trim, however there was still access over them.
Resolved: The Clerk to add this to the next agenda for further discussion.
8) Minute Number 102/09/FPG - Evaluation of SDDC Forum meeting at Hatton, 29.9.09
It was reported that Cllr Bell, Sheila Hughes and Joan Tidy had attended the SDDC Forum Meeting held at Hatton on 29th September 2009. It was reported that this had been a nice evening however it was almost dark when everybody arrived which was not a particularly good time to start a walk about. However they went on a little walk along side the river which was very neatly kept with a small island on the other side of the river. It was reported that the area had a lot going for it, being looked after and maintained by a small group that were not connected to the Parish Council. After the walk everybody went back for refreshments and a presentation from Eon with regards to their Hydro Electric Project at Tutbury.
9) Minute Number 103/09/FPG - Tree for Cllr Mike Orme.
Mary Ross MBE reported that she had spoke to Cllr Mike Orme’s family with regards to the planting of his tree but a date had not yet been confirmed. Resolved: To plant Cllr Mike Orme’s Tree on Saturday 28th November 2009 at 11am.
Resolved: Mary Ross MBE to speak with Mike’s family with regards to the wording of the plaque in his memory.
10) Minute Number 104/09/FPG - Wildlife bank
It was reported that 2 Buzzards were seen on the morning of the meeting by Joan. She had also seen a Kestrel.
It was reported that a fox had been seen the night before the meeting at Porters Lane.
It was reported that a Barn Owl had been heard by Cllr Bell the night before the meeting on Doles Lane.
It was reported that the Duck on the marina with a bobble on it’s head (crested Duck) was not an actual breed but a mutation due to a recessive gene.
It was reported that there had been an increase in the number of sparrows in and around the village this year.
It was reported that 2 Toads had been seen on Cllr Bell’s allotment.
11) Minute Number 105/09/FPG - Next meeting, November 5, appointment of Chair.
Resolved: The next meeting of the Findern Footpaths Group will be held on 5th November 2009 at the Findern Parish Rooms commencing at 7pm Resolved: The Chairperson for the meeting will be Frances Prockter.
