1. Minute Number 248/10/FPG - To receive apologies for absence.
Apologies were received and accepted from Mary Ross MBE JP,Liz Froggatt, Ann Evans and Frances Prockter.
2. Minute Number 249/10/FPG - Declaration of member’s interests (Parish Councillors).
There was no Declaration of Members Interests.
3. Minute Number 250/10/FPG - To confirm minutes of themeeting held on 7th October 2010.
Resolved: The minutes of the Footpaths Group Meeting held on 7thOctober 2010 were circulated and approved as a true record.
4. Minute Number 251/10/FPG - Matters arising.
There was nothing to report.
5. Minute Number 252/10/FPG - Finance and Fundraising
It was reported that there was 2 x cheques for authorisation as follows:
§ £74.00 Allan Withington.
§ £36.48 x 2 for Britannia Tyres
It was reported that Allan Withington had donated an insect house,valued at £25.00, for the group to sell at one of their events to raise funds.
It was reported that Allan Withington had asked for a link from the Footpaths Group Website to his own Website which is a wildlife photography site. He stated he is also interested in taking photographs
in Findern which he would sell and donate some of the proceeds to the Footpaths Group.
It was reported that David Tremane had donated a picture of a water fall for the Footpaths Group Funds.
6. Minute Number 253/10/FPG - Communications and notifications.
It was reported that the Group had received a card ‘thank you’ card from Val who recently left the village for pastures new.
7. Minute Number 254/10/FPG - Evaluations and reports
· All things creepy, 27.10.10
The event went well but was slightly low on attendance numbers which was disappointing. It was estimated that there were about 30 children in attendance and that there had been a good atmosphere in the Findern Methodist Chapel where tea and coffee was being served.
Resolved: To advertise the event in the future more widely.
Resolved: The Group to consider how their event in February
could be advertised.
8. Minute Number 255/10/FPG - Event Planning
· SDDC Environmental Forum 10.11.10
The event is to be held at Swadlincote Town Hall.
Resolved: To car share, meeting at Lower Green at 6.30pm to be
at the venue for 7pm
· Pupil Enrichment programme, Derby Moor School.
It was reported that they would be coming to Findern on 05.11.2010 at 12 noon, Nev Froggatt and Wendy Hithersay would be meeting withthem to complete a Bird boxes event.
Resolved: 12.11.2010 - Sheila Hughes and Liz Lenton to meet with the Pupils for a planting Primroses Event.
Resolved: 19.11.2010 – Joan Tidy to meet the Pupils
Resolved: All events start at 12 noon.
· ‘Water allsorts’ Walk for Wild Derby.
It was reported that the recce had not been done today due to the weather. However the forms needed to be in by 7th January 2011.
General discussion about the route the walk would take and whether to start and finish the walk inFindern for a change. It was also agreed that the walk would take in the wildlife sites.
· Tree & hedge planting
It was reported that the group needed to purchase 100 hedging plants,stakes and tree guards to complete the hedge.
Resolved: Nev Froggatt to purchase the hedging and equipment required.
Resolved: The work to be completed on 22nd November 2010 meeting on The Green commencing at 10am.
· OPAL water and hedgerow surveys
It was reported that Nev Froggatt would be attending this event on 05.11.2010. He explained that the water survey would now not becompleted as it was too late in the year instead they would now be
completing a hedgerow survey.
9. Minute Number 256/10/FPG - Public rights of way reports
and maintenance to include visit of Zoe Woodhouse, 21.10.10 and 1.11.10
A Report from the visit was given as follows:
§ Nev and Liz Froggatt attended on 21st October 2010 and walked the footpath to the Windmill, there is no problem within this areathat can not easily be resolved and there was funding in place for the footpath work required in this area.
§ The stile on Common Piece Lane has been looked at. The uprights are set in concrete but the wood has rotted away.
§ The Bridle Way had been looked at, this is now not footpath number 12 but had been redefined as footpath 15. Zoe had said that this area would require a lot of work as it was very overgrown. The section by the bridge is due to be repaired in April 2011, so part of the Bridle Way will then be opened.
§ Rushy Meadow had been looked at.
§ Zoe to contact the landowner of the style on Footpath number 10.
§ Mowing and strimming had been completed on footpaths 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 14.
§ £360.00 had been spent to date on the Minor Maintenance Scheme.
10. Minute Number 257/10/FPG - Wildlife site maintenance.
It was reported that dog fouling was still a big problem around the village, not only on the footpaths but also on the pavements and roads around the village.
It was reported that the picnic bench on the towpath had still not been repaired but this would be completed in the New Year.
11. Minute Number 258/10/FPG - Website development
Joan Tidy reported that she had looked at the group website today and there was more information on there, including the photographs of the Bridge Celebration.
It was reported that a link had been added to the website to allow the group to check any progress.
Resolved: The Newsletter was approved.
Resolved: The Clerk to add this to the December agenda for the Parish Council for approval.
Resolved: Newsletter Meeting will be held on 30th November 2010 at 9.30am at the Findern Methodist Chapel.
12. Minute Number 259/10/FPG - Wildlife database
The Clerk reported that she had come across a dead swan on Willington Road just past the Marina coming into the village a few weeks previous and that she thought had been hit by a car. However, it has since been reported that 3 swans had died in that location as a result of flying into the Power Cables. This has been reported to the Electricity Company and they have now agreed to install bird protectors.
It was reported that Nev Froggatt had seen a Great Spotted Woodpecker on 21.10.2010 on Common Piece Lane.
It was reported that a Green Woodpecker had been spotted in Cardales Meadow on 02.11.2010 at about 8.45pm.
It was reported that Blue Tits had been seen using the Bat Boxes.
13. Minute Number 260/10/FPG - Next meeting January6-appointment of chair.
Resolved: The next meeting of the Footpaths Group will be held on 6th January 2010 at the Methodist Chapel, Findern commencing at 7pm.
