Minutes of the Findern Parish Council Footpaths Group meeting held on Thursday 6th November 2014 at the Parish Rooms, Findern commencing at 7 pm

1. Minute Number 800/14/FPG - To receive apologies for absence
Apologies were received and accepted from Joan Tidy, Mary Ross MBE JP, Frances Prockter, Anne Evans, Liz Lenton and Liz Froggatt
2. Minute Number 801/14/FPG - Declaration of members’ interests (Parish Councillors)
There were no Declarations of members’ interests.
3. Minute Number 802/14/FPG – To confirm the minutes of the meeting on
Minutes of the Footpaths Group meeting held on Thursday 2nd October 2014 were circulated and approved as a true record.
4. Minute Number 803/14/FPG – Review of organisation of meetings
Due to the small number of members present it was decided to refer this item to the next meeting however those present felt that tables is a wider configuration that usual would creat a more formal atmosphere although it was acknowledged that it is a formal meeting.
Action : to be added to Agenda of next meeting.
5. Minute Number 804/14/FPG – Finance and Fundraising
£385 minor maintenance funding received from Findern Parish Council and £200 funding received from CEMEX paid into the current account which stands at £4739.62p. 50p interest has been accrued on the reserve account which now stands at £5016.15p. Statements have been received for both accounts and the accounts balanced.
Fun on the Green events February and October 2014 - £260 spent on entertainment (ie mini zoo, owls, pole lathing) and £153 spent on materials making a total spend of £413 which is within budget. In October £54.20 was made in the shop and £8 received in donations. Both amounts have been paid into the current account.
Cemex funding paid into the current account as noted above.
6. Minute Number 805/14/FPG – Communications and Notifications
(i) Drop in Insect Show, Derby University, 11-4 Saturday 15th November 2014 - information previously circulated to members
(ii) C&RT Volunteer Christmas Party, Saturday 6th December 2014 - Joan, Dave, Maurice, Suzi, Richard, Nev and Liz Froggat said they would like to attend and possibly Janet. It was decided not to do a presentation. Several members were not present so it is not known if they would like to attend.
Action : who is co-ordinations this?
7. Minute Number 806/14/FPG – Community Payback Team service monitoring and “thank you” gift
60 hours work took place during October 2014. Heather will meet with them Saturday 8th November 2014.
Any contributions to a Christmas gift (eg biscuits) please deliver to Liz Froggatt by 1st December 2014
8. Minute Number 807/14/FPG –Reports and Evaluations from events attended
(i) Fun on The Green, Wednesday 29th October 2014
Members felt that this went well with more gazebos that usual and a wide range of activities on offer. Numbers were slightly down on usual. On Friday 7th November 2014 Heather and Janet are returning items borrowed from the Resource Centre.
(ii) SDDC Environmental Forum, Thursday 6th November 2014
Liz Froggatt attended. Several firms such as Toyota were present. Liz made some useful links to assist with the project at Findern School.
(iii) Bat box check, Saturday 25th October 2014
The results of this check had been previously circulated to members including photographs. 11 bats were found with 74% of the boxes having been used and 16% occupied.
(iv) Mercia Marina Boardwalk Opening, Saturday 11th October 2014
Heather, Anne and Sheila attended and took the display boards. There was a launch of walk leaflets of circular walks commencing at the Marina and incorporating some of Findern Footpaths walks.
(v) Findern Primary School Eco Committee meeting, Wednesday 5th November 2014
Unfortunately this meeting didn't take place. It has been suggested that quarterly rather than monthly meetings may be more suitable.
9. Minute Number 808/14/FPG – Projects
(i) Walks leaflet in conjunction with Mercia Marina and Derby University
No updates at present.
(ii) Autumn Planting Programme
Wren Park Close/Aults Close - shrubs have been ordered from Woodgrow. 3 oak trees are awaited from South Derbyshire District Council. It was suggested that some seating (possibly of a rustic design) be provided.
All Saints Churchyard - quotation being provided by Woodgrow.
(iii) Boardwalk Construction
Sleepers and most of the recycled plastic slats were put in place on 17th October 2014. Delivery of a further 3 dozen slats is awaited in order to complete the project. The blackthorn also needs cutting back in order for the boardwalk to be easily accessible.
(iv) Breathing Life into Waterways Project
There is shortfall of £300 in funding for the BBQ stands and signage on the towpath. Members present agreed this could be met from Group finances.
10. Minute Number 809/14/FPG – Monitoring of Facebook page and website
There were no specific comments about either Facebook or the website.
Suzi has e-mailed a draft copy of the Parish Newsletter to members. Comments were requested by Tuesday 11th November 2014. Janet agreed to e-mail members re this.
11. Minute Number 810/14/FPG – Event Planning
(i) Mammals of Derbyshire talk, 7.30 pm Thursday 22nd January 2015
As this is an interactive talk involving people moving around it was felt that the Methodist Chapel would be most suitable - Heather will book it. It was agreed to charge £3 to include refreshments and that tickets would be available from the Village Shop and heather. Suzi will advertise it in the Parish Newsletter and Jan will advertise it in The Resource and do posters for the notice boards etc.

(ii) Wildflower Walk, 7 pm Thursday 25th June 2015
It was felt that refreshments could be served at the sites this was taking place and that it could be decided nearer the time whether a room was required.
(iii) Mammal Hunt, 1pm tbc Thursday 27th August 2015
Debbie has suggested this as a follow up to the talk on 22nd January. The date was agreed by members and again it was felt that refreshments could be served on site and a decision re a room be made nearer the time.
(iv) Fun on The Green, Wednesday 11th February 2015
Peter green is booked for willow weaving. A visit tho the Resource Centre to be arranged in the New Year. Information and be en excited from Pete Lister re bringing his petting animals. His charge is £100 and he requires a gazebo and electric point. Heather will discuss these with him and book.

12. Minute Number 811/14/FPG – Public Rights of Way Reports
Priory Way Improvements
Priory Way was walked on 4th November 2014 and a list of identified works has been circulated to members. These were discussed and it was agreed that a timetable be planned in the New Year. Thanks were given to Maurice for repairing the spring on the first gate (going away from Findern) on the route.
Action: timetable planning to be added to January 2015 Agenda
13. Minute Number 812/14/FPG – Wildlife Site Management
Nev has trimmed the lower branches of some of the trees in Stanhope Wood.
14. Minute Number 813/14/FPG – Wildlife Database (please bring your sightings sheets)
Heather reported seeing a weasel just beyond the underpass (going in the direction of the canal) on 3rd November.
Nev handed in a sightings sheet for Liz and himself.
15. Minute Number 814/14/FPG – Date of next meeting and Chair
Resolved: The next meeting will be held in the Parish Rooms, Findern on Wednesday 7th January 2015 commencing at 7pm and will be chaired by Anne Evans.
