Minutes of the Findern Parish Council Footpaths Group meeting held on Thursday 4th June 2015 at the Parish Rooms, Findern commencing at 7 pm

1. Minute Number 885/15/FPG - To receive apologies for absence
Apologies were received and accepted from Mary Ross MBE, Nev Froggatt, Heather Hall, Anne Evans and Jan Ashford.
2. Minute Number 886/15/FPG - Declaration of members’ interests (Parish Councillors)
There were no Declarations of members’ interests.
3. Minute Number 887/15/FPG – To confirm the minutes of the meeting on 7th May 2015
Minutes of the Footpaths Group meeting held on Thursday 7th May 2015 were circulated. Frances noted that minute number 11 item ii) Invasive Himalayan Balsam showed members to meet 20th June, this should read 20th May. The amendment having been made the minutes were approved as a true record.
4. Minute Number 888/15/FPG – Finance and Fundraising
Joan stated statements had been received and the accounts balanced. The reserve account had accrued .17p interest and stands at £5017.32p. There had been no transactions on the current account except the direct debit payment for website maintenance. A cheque for £6.16p written in November 2014 had still not been presented and is now out of date. The current account stands at £3756.93p.
Wendy asked for approval to buy more small toys etc. for the village fete and handed round a price list. Following a discussion a small amount of the request was approved.
Heather stated the Methodist Chapel had declined the donation offered following the Dawn Chorus walk saying they preferred us to spend the money on our projects. Heather suggested that we use the money (£25 in total) to purchase 2 butterfly nets to replace those lost. All agreed.
5. Minute Number 889/15/FPG – Communications and Notifications
i) Invitation to attend Hatton Parish Council Meeting Tuesday 9th June 2015
Joan stated she had emailed the parish council but had not yet received any agenda or directions to the venue.
ii) Request from Eco class Findern Primary School
Heather had attended the school to collect trees left over from their planting and Mrs Preston had asked if the class could visit our wildlife sites some time before the end of term. Following discussion Wednesday 15th July was agreed upon and Maurice, Sheila, Liz and Janet volunteered to attend.
iii) Email re incorrect details in Mercia Marina Walks Leaflet
Joan stated she had liaised with the Marina and the details and been amended and the leaflets will be reprinted.
iv) Email re Health and Safety Training with C&RT Stenson Bubble
The training is from 9-4 on Friday 12th June 2015, Joan and Heather will be attending.
Joan states that so many emails are received on email@example.com and those that she thinks will be of interest to members are forwarded. As most of these are for information only she asks members to let her know of any they wish to discuss during the meeting so that they can be included on the agenda.

Joan had circulated the email with the link to the proposed new look to our website. Those present like the new look and Joan will liaise with Devmac once all members have given their approval.
7. Minute Number 891/15/FPG – Newsletter for approval
The newsletter had been circulated and seen by all members and was approved.
8. Minute Number 892/15/FPG – Reports and Evaluations from other meetings/events attended
No other meetings or events attended therefore nothing to report.
9. Minute Number 893/15/FPG – Project Planning
i) Butterfly Transect 2015
Rota completed until mid July
ii) Walks Leaflet in conjunction with Derby University
Heather states Emma has now finished her studies and will be spending more time working on the leaflet. Heather has given her details of where she may obtain photographs for inclusion in the leaflet.
10. Minute Number 894/15/FPG – Event Planning
i) Wildflower Walk led by Debbie Alston Thursday 25th June 2015 at 7pm
To cover costs it was agreed to charge £3 for the walk which will also include light refreshments in the parish rooms afterwards. Joan states she has booked the parish rooms from 6.30pm to get things ready but the walk itself will start from The Green. Heather agreed to take bookings and details of the walk have been included in the next newsletter. Joan, Janet, Wendy and Heather attending.
ii) Return visit of the Friends of Aston Brickyard
Heather states she emailed a choice of dates to the Friends but as yet has had no reply.
iii) Teddy Bears Picnic 2nd September 2015
No further update at this time except that this event has also been included in the next newsletter.
iv) Fun on The Green Wednesday 28th October 2015
A suggestion was made that as it’s close to 31st October we could have a Halloween theme and ideas included having a fancy dress and/or best pumpkin competition.
Resolved: This item is to be added to the next agenda for further discussion/update.
11. Minute Number 895/15/FPG – Public Rights of Way Reports
i) Priory Way – replacement of broken gate with kissing gate
Heather has obtained a quote from T H Heath Contracts who supplied and fitted the other kissing gates. They have quoted “to supply and install a pedestrian gate the same as already installed including concrete would cost £411.00 + VAT”. Heather has asked whether the parish council would pay for this and Clare has included it on the agenda for their meeting next week.
ii) Rushy Meadow Way
Maurice reported that the stile on Rushy Meadow Way, Lower Green has been broken yet again and stated he would be bringing it up at the parish council meeting next week.
12. Minute Number 896/15/FPG – Wildlife Site Management
i) Update on the renewal of leases Stanhope Wood and Stanhope Hole Conservation Area
No further update at this time.
ii) Invasive Himalayan Balsam
Joan, Wendy, Frances and Heather spent an hour on Wednesday evening uprooting the balsam along the towpath but there is still an awful lot more to be done. It was suggested that it would be better to strim it even though it would mean strimming the nettles as well but until we have all been trained to use the strimmers this is not possible.
iii) Overgrown vegetation covering seat Common Piece Lane and steps to the wet area
It was decided to meet on Lower Green at 7pm on Wednesday 10th June armed with shears.

Joan reported seeing a Red Kite flying north over Aults Close on 3rd June pm.
14. Minute Number 898/15/FPG – Date of Next Meeting and Chair
Resolved: The next meeting will be held in the Parish Rooms, Findern on Thursday 2nd July 2015 commencing at 7pm and will be chaired by Heather Hall.
